PRIDE

Family of fourParents' Resource for Information, Development, and Education

Cabrillo College Foster and Kinship Care Education provides the PRIDE required pre-service training for prospective foster and adoptive parents. Sessions are offered three times a year and is comprised of nine three-hour sessions, introducing the knowledge and skills needed to become foster and adoptive parents by providing participants with information to help them make an informed decision. Classes are offered FREE of charge and must be completed before a home can be licensed.

Training topics include:

  • Working with the child welfare system.
  • Meeting a child’s developmental needs, particularly in the areas of attachment, loss, and discipline.
  • Strengthening and continuing family relationships.
  • Preparing for family change.
  • Cabrillo College Location and Maps

Cabrillo College Resource Family Education Programs

Cabrillo Foster and Kinship Care Education also provides continuing education for resource families after licensure or approval.

Training topics include:

  • Healthy Attachment Parenting
  • Positive Discipline
  • Mental Health Issues for Young Children: Understanding the Impact of Loss and Trauma
  • Working With Children with Learning Disabilities & Differences
  • Caregiver Families and the Court Process
  • Adolescent Issues

Orientation Schedule

To be a foster or adoptive parent starts with an Orientation meeting.  We meet at the Live Oak Family Resource Center, 1740 17th Ave., Santa Cruz 95062 from 6-9 p.m. on these dates: 

  • March 7, 2012
  • April 4, 2012
  • No orientation in May or June
  • July 11, 2012
